It is with a great smile, I warmly welcome you to British Raj Express, our award-winning takeaway located opposite Royston Railway Station.
British Raj – Royston’s original Indian restaurant – was first opened in 1976 in a different location. My childhood dream has always been to ‘bring back’ the British Raj to Royston and to continue my family’s dynasty of being renowned Bangladeshi restaurateurs.
When we opened the doors of British Raj Express, our simple goal was to provide Royston with an unparalleled level of the very best Bangladeshi & Indian cuisine.
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, our team delivered thousands of complimentary meals to NHS staff & other key workers. We were awarded "Hero of Hertfordshire" accolades by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.
At the end of 2020 we achieve our proudest feat, British Raj Express won the "Best Takeaway During the Pandemic" category at the prestigious British Curry Awards, regarded as the ‘Oscars of the curry industry'.

Centrally located opposite Royston Railway Station, the British Raj is proud of its reputation. Owner Nazir Choudhury chuckles when asked the secret of his success. The answer is simple: a first class chef, a well thought-out menu and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
